Urbana 2009 - Day 1: Meeting 2,000+ people
I woke up early this morning and have been smiling all day. I arrived at Urbana, a worldwide student missions conference, Christmas day and have been working to organize this conference for over 20,000 people.
At the break of dawn I went to the airport to greet our students, speakers and faculty that have arrived on flights. We had students from Canada who had slept overnight in the airport - stuck in O’Hare, Dallas or Minneapolis - and finally made it to St Louis. I met people from the distant nations of India, China, Bolivia and England. I wished warm thoughts forSoCal students only wearing hoodies!
For nine hours I was blessed with smiles, cheers of victory and flight delay horror stories from hundreds of people.
When I did the math, I realized I met more than 2,000 people from all over the world!
Now it’s time to start the main plenary session. What an exciting week this is going to be!
